Do I need a permit for a lanai or pool cage in Fort Myers?
Yes. A screen enclosure is a structure in a hurricane-exposed county, so it is permitted and inspected, and most need engineering showing framing and anchors meet the design wind speed at your address. Rebuilds get looked at closely. We pull the Lee County permit as part of the job instead of leaving it with you.
What does a pool cage or lanai screening cost in Fort Myers?
It depends on size, height, roof profile, mesh type and how much of the existing frame is reusable, so we quote after measuring rather than guessing on the phone. A rescreen of a sound cage is the low end. A two-storey mansard cage on new footings is well above it. The measure and the written quote are free.
Do I need no-see-um screen, or is standard mesh enough?
It depends where your lot sits. Standard 18x14 mesh moves the most air and is fine on an inland lot away from water. Near the mangroves, a canal or the river, 18x14 will not stop a no-see-um and you want 20x20. Most of our jobs mix them by panel — tight mesh on the water side, standard mesh up high.
Can you rescreen my cage instead of rebuilding it?
Usually, and it costs a fraction of a rebuild. The frame decides it. If the aluminum is sound at the base and the anchors have not moved, rescreening is a day or two of work. If the base rail has corroded through or a bay is out of square, new mesh on a failing frame is money in the wrong order and we will say so.
Why do cages here need heavier framing than elsewhere in Florida?
Design wind speed. Coastal Lee County sits at the demanding end of the Florida Building Code wind map, and a pool cage is a large light structure with long clear spans and nothing bracing the middle. That is why beam sizing, anchor embedment and uplift connections matter far more than the mesh you choose.
Screened lanai or glazed sunroom?
A screened lanai is open to the air, much cheaper, and keeps the space feeling like outside. A sunroom is glazed and can be air-conditioned, so it works as real living space in August and costs considerably more. If you want to use it with the doors shut and the air on, that is a sunroom.
